Hallowe'en and Christmas Events at the Charles Dickens Museum

Tickets for Hallowe'en and Christmas events at the Charles Dickens Museum in London go on sale on October 1 with one-man performances of Dickens’s stories by James Swanton and Dominic Gerrard.

Nancy’s Murder and Other Horrifying Tales performed by Dominic Gerrard (October 28 and 29) focuses on the notorious scene from Oliver Twist, introduced by Dickens into his 1868 farewell tour which sent his pulse rate rocketing. Gerrard will also perform The Lawyer & the Ghost by Dickens and The Dead Hand by Dickens’s friend, Wilkie Collins.

James Swanton will perform The Signal-Man, written only a year after Dickens survived the Staplehurst rail crash, and The Trial for Murder (October 30-November 1).

From November 11, the museum will be decorated for Christmas in festive Victorian-style, featuring more than a month of live performances, special events and tours. Among the highlights will be live performances of A Christmas Carol (December 1-23) and The Haunted Man (December 2, 3, 4, 8, 10 and 16) by James Swanton. On Christmas Eve there will be music and live events, including Christmas film screenings.  

During his time at Doughty Street, visitors enjoyed his festive parties His son, Charley Dickens was born on January  6,1837, and the following year the family began an annual tradition of hosting a Twelfth Night party which included magic lantern shows and conjuring, dancing and performances of plays, with scripts adapted by Dickens, and family and friends as cast members.
